A Mug Rug is Born

Well here it is....a mug rug that I created using some leftover scraps from the Baby Rose quilt, some scraps from Gloria #1, and some from my own scrap bag. Even the binding are made from leftover scrap strips. The small square and the half triangle squares with cut with my Accuquilt cutter....I LOVE IT!!! The back of the little quilted mug rug is denim from a pair of jeans that don't fit anymore, and a layer of scrap batting. I think it's cute, and eco-friendly too. My oldest daughter refers to me as her hippie tree-hugging mom....that's quite another story!
Well I just came off of my birthday weekend....Saturday I was feeling kinda old, kinda depressed yada-yada-yada, then I signed into my face book page on Sunday, and I had at least 100 nice Birthday wishes posted to my wall from family, friends, and some nice peeps that I really don't know. You gotta love it right? I felt better.
While I was trying to thank everyone personally with a comment tagging them as I went, I got a phone call from a male friend, whom I have had a small crush on since he walked into the room when I 1st met him. Yep, I'm kinda old to be having a crush on someone....thinking it was just silly, so I pushed it out of my mind. I do have to admit, and being the shy person that I am, I have been flirting with this man ever so subtle that even I didn't realize it myself until recently. Maybe some magic happened on Sunday over a cold beer, gazing at each other from across the room, a few stolen looks, a wink or two, a big Birthday Hug, good conversation, and the sweetest kiss that I ever had.....Romance at my age, well not likely, but hey it's not impossible!!! Keep your fingers crossed!!!

Blue Jean Apron 2

Hot off the sewing machine is my second up-cycled blue jean apron. Bet ya can't tell who is my favorite basketball team in the NBA? The San Antonio Spurs of course.....

Well technically the jeans are black....I thought the print would work better than using blue colored jeans, but now that I'm thinking about it, the silver color in the print would go nicely with "blue" jeans.....

HMMMM, guess I better get busy de-constructing a pair of blue ones.

At Wed. workshop, I did quite a bit of un-sewing....not much fun, but the light was good, & I became re-acquainted with my seam ripper.

Blue Jean Apron

This is a project that I have had laying around the house for ever.....

My friend Glo has had a blue jean apron hanging in her kitchen for years that someone had bought for her from a local BBQ joint. Hers where made from an old pair of men's wranglers. Well I finally got her to take it down, & let me see if I could make one myself....I've had that apron now for 3 months! She will be very glad to get it back.......

This is a pair of Mudd Jeans that the front snap broke, so I cut the rear out, & here ya go.....Definitely not your mother's old apron.....too bad I used a low-grade cotton, but I didn't want to waste any high-quality quilting fabric on an experiment, but in all, I think it looks pretty cool.

Eco friendly products

Well today I bought a new dishwashing detergent called "eco + " made by Palmolive. The label says that it has 0 % sodium tripolyphosphates. That translates into that it's better for our lakes & streams. Does it work, well I don't know yet, but you can be sure that I'll give you the verdict when I get the dishwasher loaded. Oh, the dishwasher has an energy star rating too, so maybe I'll be getting bonus points from mother earth.
Now I usually blog about my sewing/crafting, but I would like to mention a new website that is earth friendly, & hope that you might visit it sometime. It's called "Crafing a green world."

...and back to blogging and sewing! I bought myself a new PC for X-mas, & I'm back online...YIPEE!
Now to start some new projects & finish up some old ones.

Also, I'm gonna start the new year out right by finding new things to re-cycle. I know all of us generate so much trash on a daily basis, & we have become such a disposable society. We don't use & re-use anything, we just buy, use, & throw away. almost all of my light bulbs have been changed to spiral fluorescent bulbs to save energy. I unplug all of my small appliances & chargers when they are not in use. If I use disposable plates...which isn't often...I buy paper, not plastic. I crush my own cans, put magazines,newspapers,soda bottles, & phone books in the re-cycle bin for the city. Tin cans,cardboard boxes, &Styrofoam packing are now finding their way into the bin as well. I wonder how many of you recycle your trash? What do you re-cycle? What else can we do to help save the planet for our children's children??? Leave me your feedback in the comment section please.
